Panjim Footballers Win
A controversial penalty with one minute to go for the final whistle denied BFC Kerala United a share of points in the Sky Star Indian Expatriate Football League organised by Bahrain Goans. Kerala United were leading 1-0 at the break against Panjim footballers in a match played at Al Qadisiya ground in Salmaniya on Friday.
The Kerala boys played a well coordinated game against the experienced Panjim Footballers and their efforts bore fruit in the tenth minute of first half when Mohammed Rameesh beat Godwin Pinto in the goal to took a 1-0 lead. The second half saw Panjim Footballers trying hard for the equaliser and in a goal mouth melee Godfrey D’Almeida scored to level the match. Brijesh Khanaujia, who excelled in the Kerala United goal committed a foul on Rockie Fernandes in the penalty box towards the dying minutes of the game and the referee awarded a penalty for Panjim footballers. The Kerala boys protested but the referee stood his ground and Valerio Fernandes scored from the penalty spot to seal the match 2-1 in favor of Panjim Footballers.
In another match Aldona United fielding an energetic young side drew with Riffa Goans 1-1. The Aldona team were all over the Riffa area but the former Goa Universtiy player Edward Sequeira manned his team well to trap the invaders offside. In the second half Gavin Dourado essayed the ball over the Riffa Goans keeper, that hit the goalpost and entered the nets to give Aldona a 1-0 lead. Riffa went all out in search of an equaliser and in a resemblance of the first match, in the dying minutes Shanon Dias was brought down in the penalty area by Bronson Fernandes and Gurpreet Singh made no mistake to convert the penalty ending the match in a draw.
The action continues on Friday (November 18, 2011) with:
1) AMT Bahrain v/s BFC Kerala United at 2 p.m,
2) Riffa Goans v/s Panjim Footballers at 3 p.m.; and
3) Aldona United v/s United Footballers at 4 p.m.
