1st Indian Expatriate Football League Tournament organized by Bahrain Goans

The first Indian Expatriate Football League organised by Bahrain Goans got off to a flying start with 9 teams participating. The inaugural matches were played last Friday at the Al Qadisiya ground in Salmaniya.

In the very first match of the league BFC Kerala United emerged winners with a narrow 1 - 0 victory over Valankani Boys Nuvem. BFC Kerala United captain Shafique VK lead from the front scoring the only goal of the match in the 5th minute. The Valankani boys lead an all out assault to find an equaliser but a fine goal keeping by Brijesh Kanujia denied them a goal. The Kerala United manager Mehajoob Ambalath, though expressed happiness with the result said that his team need to improve in the midfield to face tougher opponents as the league moves forward.

In the second match Panjim Footballers, fielding several former senior division players from Goa and Maharashtra were held to a goal less draw by Navelim Union. Infact Navelim Union came very close to scoring once in each half through Elton Mascarehas. In the first half his blistering drive from the 30 yards circle sailed inches over the cross bar and in the second half Panjim goalkeeper Godwin Pinto dived at his feet to thwart a goal for Navelim.
