SS Nuvem Edge Past Marina Football Club - Sky Star Indian Expatriate Football League

SS Nuvem Edge Past Marina Football Club

SS Nuvem opened their account in the Sky Star Indian Expatriate Football League, Bahrain with a 1 - 0 victory over Marina Football club in a match played on Friday at the Al Qadisiya ground in Salmaniya.

Marina FC started the match on a positive note keeping control of the ball in the initial stages of the matches. The Nuvem boys very first attempt resulted in a corner and Aneez of Marina in a hurry to clear the ball handled the ball inside the penalty box and referee Joaquim D’Costa pointed to the dreaded spot. Nuvem skipper Betal Sequeira made no mistake from the first penalty of the league. With a goal down, Marina regrouped and had a few chances to equalise in the first half. The best opportunity was a well taken shot at goal by left back Sanal which beat the Nuvem goalkeeper Mark Fernandes but the ball missed the far post by inches. In the second half Marina made changes bringing in Anoop in place of Shihab and stopper Aghil moving forward. The changes had negative impact on Marina and the game turned out into a show of abilities by Marina keeper Johnson against the forwards of Nuvem. Nuvem created a dozen of goal bound moves but the keeper thwarted all to lock the score at 1 - 0 till the end. The captain of Marina Paul Joshua conceded that it was better team that won but expressed confidence to do better in the upcoming games.

In another match Sajith scored the only goal of the match to give a winning start to AMT Bahrain. They won the match against Majorda Youth. AMT could have won the match with a bigger margin but the Majorda defence played a stellar role to keep the AMT strikers at bay. A late raid by Majorda Youth saw some good saves from Latheef in the AMT goal to deny an equaliser. Its a happy moment for us to begin the league with a victory said the AMT captain Mohammed Ali.

BFC Kerala United will play Panjim Footballers on Friday (4th November 2011) at 2 p.m. followed by a match between Riffa Goans Football Club against Aldona United at 3.00 p.m at the Al Qadisiya Ground.
